Debian 3.0 (of course, I'm biased! ;) But seriously, since you're gonna run
linux on those old machines, I suggest Debian because of its kick-ass debs and
rock solid reliability. True, the newer distros tend to be bloatware, but in
the case of recycling old hardware, the oldies still rule. Also, it would be
helpful if you could get a newer 2.6 kernel as I hear they're very, very good
on those luggers (even better off than 2.4)... but of course, I wouldn't
compile that in one of those machines, better cross-compile...
