Tools like evince and mupdf work on >any distro and desktop environment, don't they? +1 for Evince, but I've been using Linux exclusively since 2005 and I've never heard of mupdf. And it's not installed on my Xubuntu 18.04 desktop. As for Calbre, I have it installed, but I think I had to install it myself; it was not part of the default Xubuntu installation. If I were doing this I would start with a list of tasks that you are going to support, e.g., read and write e-mail, use a web browser, write a letter, listen to music, and so on. Then I would identify the most common apps that various distros install to do each of the tasks I have identified, and then figure out which distros install all of them. Maybe identify the user you are targeting first. Is this for someone who has never used a computer before, or someone already familiar with Windows or MacOS. This is a formidable task. It might take me the rest of my life. _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
