I realize that this only compounds the problem, but I can't honestly
offer a sincere apology, except inasmuch as I have discussed an
emotionally charged issue with as much emotional detachment as I can
muster.  I do apologize for being unable to offer a sincere apology.
I believe a false apology would be worse.

I can, however, drop the subject.

I thought we could have a rational, even logical, conversation about
the impact of word choice, but obviously I was wrong.  (I'm pretty
sure everyone already knows to be careful when driving around
children.)
