Bear in mind that unistalling a firewall may turn on the windows firewall [SP2 onwards] You may need to turn this off!
Also note that I don't advocate running a machine without a firewall, its just it this is a useful way to prove the firewall is the problem. Assuming it works with the firewall removed, we then just need to figure out how to bypass the firewall for slimserver.
