I tried to review the change to understand what could happen. It was a
while when I did that, so it does not come back easily to me but
@erland, would you happen to add ad keep-alive header in your HTTP
request? 

Michael, I think your change will work, but I purposely used the fact
that "undef" numerically compared to 0 to close the connection in case
of a faulty server that accepts a keep-alive request but does not put a
content-length in its response (in such case, client does not know when
bidy has been received). With your modification, connection will
timeout, but I think body will till be received
