I run now a script which checks via Spotify API the available devices (GET https://api.spotify.com/v1/me/player/devices). The script runs every minute and kills the LMS spotty deamon process if the device is no longer available in SC.
That's pretty much what Spotty does - with the correct option enabled. Unfortunately this currently isn't available unless local announcements are disabled.
