Boot with Ethernet attached, then insert your USB wifi stick.
Go to the wifi page, then turn on wifi and press save. Then there
should be a diagnostics button,
There will be a text box with information like this.
Code:
--------------------
[ 0.943621] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=2109, idProduct=3431,
bcdDevice= 4.20
[ 0.943629] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=1,
SerialNumber=0
[ 0.943634] usb 1-1: Product: USB2.0 Hub
[ 0.944929] hub 1-1:1.0: USB hub found
[ 0.945238] hub 1-1:1.0: 4 ports detected
--------------------
Copy and base the line with the idVendor and idProduct. That will help
us identify the chip. There are lots of USB wifi devices, some of them
use "out of tree" drivers that are a bit difficult to maintain.
