I don't understand: when I'm looking at that folder on a freshly booted  
SlimCD it's got the same owner/group (root), but does work. OTOH restored  
 from the file it doesn't. You could add "chown -R dsl:staff  
/tmp/.slimcache" to /etc/init.d/slimserver just before the "chmod 666"  
line.
