If you're using Windows, you can use the "tray menu" functionality of Squeezelite-X (https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?108550-Announce-Squeezelite-X) to do this sort of thing. That's one of the main reasons I use it on my PC, even though I don't use its built-in squeezelite player.
