When you add a program to IMON - does NOD32 validate the path of the
executable or can you add an invalid path ? *No it has to exist, just
tried*

Running out of ideas.
1. What modules of NOD have you enabled ? *All of them*
2. Perhaps also add mplayer.exe to the IMON list *I already did*

What is the rationale of having both NOD32 and ZA ? *ZA is a firewall
and NOD is a virus scanner. The way I have ZA set up means that there
should be no overlap in function (in theory) I'm only running the free
firewall and not the security suite*

>From experience ZA on XP is a very badly behaved application - it
achieved its security by breaking the standard interfaces provided by
MS. The initial version on Vista broke SC (and other apps) - so I will
remain suspicious of it and whether it can live alongside with other
security apps.
*The old version broke Vista, but to be fair it wasn't Vista ready
then, having completely uninstalled it and not had that fix the problem
I can't help feeling it's not to blame however hard we try.*
