When you add a program to IMON - does NOD32 validate the path of the
executable or can you add an invalid path ?

Running out of ideas.
1. What modules of NOD have you enabled ?
2. Perhaps also add mplayer.exe to the IMON list

What is the rationale of having both NOD32 and ZA ?

>From experience ZA on XP is a very badly behaved application - it
achieved its security by breaking the standard interfaces provided by
MS. The initial version on Vista broke SC (and other apps) - so I will
remain suspicious of it and whether it can live alongside with other
security apps.
