I am not sure if upgrading to Leopard in itself cured the problem - I think it may have just been that upgrading was the only way to negate a problem that had developed deep in the OS. Reinstalling 10.4 using the Combo updater didn't help, but maybe an archive and install reinstall of 10.4 may also have worked. It still freaks me out though, that the OS took offence to only Michael's plugins. Must just be an unlucky combination of a deep OS problem, and something (however tiny and otherwise harmless) bit of code in the plugins.
