1) Yes. If you distribute your derivative to anyone else, it must be
under the GPL.**
2) No.**

** If you could get Adrian and everyone else who contributed code to
agree, you could release your plugin under different licensing terms.
If you're incorporating much from SlimServer/SqueezeCenter itself, that
could be a real hassle. And some projects release source under different
licenses (e.g., Perl can be considered as released under any version of
the GPL, or Perl's Artistic License) -- but if Adrian only specified
the GPL, then you cannot release a derivative under another license
without obtaining the appropriate IP agreements from him & other
contributors.
