I am on PlusNet and also suffer from breaks in the BBC Listen Again streams using AlienBBC however it is fine if I use RealPlayer locally on the server.
The BBC did a lot of work with Real regarding variable streaming and it is possible that RealPlayer negotiates and throttles back the stream if it experiences lost packets. You can sometimes watch the bit rate fall on the player. MPlayer probably doesn't have the same facility. You could run the BBC IPlayer on the server and use something like IceCast to send it to the Squeezebox, which I find works well. Or if you want to use Alien BBC, try pausing the stream for a minute just after you have opened it. This appears to fill up some buffering somewhere and clears the problem for a while. When the breaks return, pause again. I know we pay PlusNet for the bandwidth but when some event such as the Olympics cause us all to use the bandwidth at the same time we exceed their maximum bandwidth capability and the system suffers. To increase the peak bandwidth they have to purchase more equipment and bandwidth from BT and we all have to pay for this in our subscriptions so no one wins. -- MrStan ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MrStan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1771 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52022 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
