I was more or less trying to evacuate the idea outside of
srvPowerControl; I think adding sensors information is feasible for a
limited set of platforms, Windows, OS X, some factory-installed
linuxes, some NASes; But I doubt it can add any value to the musical
experience. Or to power savings.

Here is how I see things:
- For each computer hardware, the data is different; some have 1 CPU,
some more; some no fans, machines with 0, 1, 2, 3... spinning HDDs,
etc.
- For each computer/application, its meaning is different; "I don't
care that my case fan reports 0 rpm, because the computer runs ok
without it --and its not 0, it just doesn't register"
- For each computer/OS, the way to access this information is
different. And on a white-box linux, once you get some info, it is
inaccurate (need to tailor lm-sensors config.)
As a conclusion: it's a mess of an unsuspected magnitude to the casual
user who just expects the damn computer to report its operating
conditions.

Now, when I was in my linux home server project, I, too, fancied the
idea of integrating hardware sensor information (after all, I just had
re-coded HDD spindowns...); Considering this was for a known hardware
platform, for a known use-case, for a known environment, I had not too
much trouble configuring lm-sensors and reading/parsing data in perl.
Setting relevant thresholds required a fair amount of testing (I
discovered some of my HDDs were ready to build up temperature in excess
of 60°C when writing, instead of slowing down) but was feasible.

In the end, the whole thing was a waste of time: 1) a non-critical
error, like "gee, its getting hotter than usual in here" is of no
relevance to the music listener/movie watcher. So I decided to
disregard non-critical hardware conditions. The show must go on, even
if the cat is leaning on the air vent. 2) upon critical error, like
"huh. the CPU fan died", this is indeed no time to schedule a fancy
shutdown to SN or whatever. It has to go, ASAP; And the OS or the
hardware already take care of that with built-in thermal limits.

Sorry for the long message. I tried to be brief, I swear.
