this is indeed strange, you need to enter the server's address. You might have a subnet mask conflict here, if your subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0 in the wifi network, the iPhone might not be able to see the server and uses the player as a bridge? Or do you have different wifi and wired networks? Does your wifi probably use different ip ranges than your wired network?
