Up til last night my server lived under the stairs in my basement. This
is the best location as it's the network termination point for all my
TV/phone and LAN cabling. Telephone punchdown block, coax distribution
amp, cable modem, gateway/router, VOIP adapter, ethernet switches etc
all live here too.

Last night I moved the server upstairs. With the USB extension cable I
was able to get the RS2 near an exterior wall and I'm also using the
supplied "external antenna" plugged into the headphone jack. Although
both changes help, reception is still poor, especially AM. Ultimately,
I'd like the RS2 to connect to an omnidirectional outdoor FM antenna I
have in my attic. Connection is via 75 ohm coax. Once this is done, I
can once again put the server in the basement. By the way, this mp3car
thread:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/car-audio/70795-radioshark-car-antenna-2.html
shows how forum members have connected external antennas,
in-particular, scroll down to the post by Akula169. Granted this is
with a RS1... I'll first try it with the attic antenna to a 75-300 ohm
adapter to the ground connection of the headphone jack. If this doesn't
get me there, I'll crack open the case and take more drastic measures.
If you are interested I'll post my progress here.
