Not doubting your expertise, but I'd like to make sense of the reported problems with only one type of playback. Maybe when using wavin it's more "real-time", in which case a loss is more likely to create a problem than with a file on disk that can be read again if necessary. I'll be interested to know the source of the sound rrand is using for wavin.
