All of these players have TWO open connection to their server for cometd
and an additional one for SlimProto permanently open. Players keep
sending huge status messages all over the place and you care about the
occasional 7-byte message from the server. Ok, it's a whole packet but
then you won't get the usual player status into that.

And for the memory overhead: how much is that, compared to, say, your
artwork cache?
