Anything caching more would no longer be a Squeezebox system, it would require a different server. iPeng pretty much maxes out the amount of caching you can do with the Squeezebox architecture to a degree where I had to add the option to use a smaller cache instead.
What you have to keep in mind is that in the Squeezebox architecture the server is not just the source of audio data but it also _controls_ the player. As soon a you change that you have a different player and you lose functionality like remote control, gapless and synchronization. Missing data is not really a problem. Usually iPeng caches a bit over 1 1/2 minutes of music, if that is not enough, then your pipe usually isn't big enough and more caching won't help either. You could reduce the bitrate further, I don't know what iSub is streaming at and what you have selected. Oh, and are you sure your server can really transcode so that the bitrate limit has an effect at all? I mean: 128kbps should not be _that_ much in today's networks. But as soon as you completely lose the connection to the server, playback control will get erroneous. > If it is a limitation and you do support download then maybe you should > switch to that interface entirely. But you'd lose remote control, synchronization, playback of any online sources like radio, Spotify,... you name it, all the additional functionality that the server provides like metadata... It's really something completely different from a Squeezebox. But if you want that... there are already solutions for that. No, it really only makes sense as an extension that gives you a bit of remaining functionality in the cases where you can't stream, if you can, you also want to. --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 7, the Universal App for iOS 7* ------------------------------------------------------------------------ pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
