Have we reached a point where a new thread would help? We have:
1) bpa's plugin which creates 3 custom files
2) a menu.opml replacement for bbc iplayer live
3) many people providing ffmpeg solutions for various platforms, and an
extra bpa plugin for those with ffmpeg issues where it doesn't stop and
restart cleanly
(1) and (2) could be made easy. (3) will be difficult for some, but
there is no obvious simple solution, and certainly not a
one-size-fits-all, and probably never will be.
I my case, on ubuntu 14.04, i decided to go with standard releases, so I
removed all trace of ffmpeg (sudo apt-get purge ffmpeg), made sure I had
no ubuntu ppas for ffmpeg, and installed libav-tools. Rather than
modify bpa's files, I did the following in /usr/bin
Code:
--------------------
sudo ln -s avconv ffmpeg
--------------------
That says ffmpeg is another name for avconv, which is the ffmpeg version
used by several linux distros. It all works in the same way.
To look at details of a stream, avprobe works in a similar way to
ffprobe, eg:
Code:
--------------------
avprobe
