It's fascinating how different people see things. The idea of 'My'
music being in the cloud, managed by some corporate monster, and
unavailable if there's a comms problem (I specialised in trying to make
reliable systems when in IT), gives me the shivers just thinking about
it. :)

I use xubuntu, which is probably way heavier than needed, but gives me
no grief and I can run headless with no fancy GUI. However, not being
familiar with how one actually operates servers in the cloud I can't
help with that side of things.

I get LMS from http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.9, the
debian version. Whilst LMS 7.8 can be got to work there's more work to
do with faad updates etc for older SB devices (can you remind me what
you have?). So for the purpose of a simple test 7.9 should be easier.
To get just iPlayer working should then be just the same as you did with
the windows version - select the repositories and plugins as per the
guide you used before. No faad changes should be needed.

LMS 7.9 on VortexBox Midi, Xubuntu 14.04, FLACs 16->24 bit,
44.1->192kbps. LMS & Squeeze2upnp to MF M1 CLiC (to MF amp & ESLs) &
Marantz CR603 UPnP renderers. Minimserver (server) & upplay (control
point) to same renderers & to upmpdcli/mpd PC renderers. Squeezelite to
Meridian USB Explorer DAC to speakers/phones. Wireless Xubuntu 14.04
laptop with firefox/upplay or Android 'phone with
Squeeze-Commander/BubbleUPnP controls LMS/Minimserver. Have a Touch
with EDO, and a spare, but don't use.
