I just tried using Fire TV as a standalone player using optical out to my Benchmark DAC. Still connected to my TV set I configured SB player to launch at Startup. Played some music over DAC - no problems. Then I disconnected from TV and rebooted the FTV. Ipeng found the player but I had no sound via optical anymore. Then again I connected HDMI to TV and playback was working again.
