We BBC fans are eternally grateful. I might beg, grovel and implore, but I promise not to complain ;)
Your post above has made me think about an occasional problem that may give you another clue. When using DASH sometimes, rather than re-buffer, the stream will simply stop, as if the stop button had been pressed on the controller. Press start on the Controller and the stream will restart. This is a random occurance and less common than the re-buffering. The plugin works fine for me at the moment with HLS set as the first file type, but I am happy to switch over to DASH at any point if you want anything tested. Thanks for all your endeavours, we all owe you a lot.
