I knew Patrick and Julia were only trying to help, but the whole thing felt
wrong. "I'll keep Kat with me," I told them. "I've looked after her this
far, I'll continue to do so." I felt myself stiffen at the implications
here, that I wasn't capable of taking care of my own child without Julia and
the Legacy, and I resented that.

NM:
Patrick cupped her cheek, reading her body language and seeing it in her
eyes "Yes you have, but please don't think like that. We all know you would
do everything in your power to protect our little girl. Just like I would.

"But, hon... right now, what's happening with Kat, as much as you may wish
it was.... it's not in your power. It is in ours though." He squeezed the
hand under hers, still joined with Julia's to keep the contact active
"Please let me help. Let us help."

He looked into her eyes, his own showing both concern for their daughter and
love for her -- but also a small fleeting emotion of needing to be an active
part of watching out for Kat. For both Kat and Rachel if Julia could swing
it although he wasn't going to put the burden on her by asking as much.

He had been gone so long....... and yes, Kat remembered him. Remembered the
past, but how long was that going to last? Before this moment, since his
death, Rachel had been the one to meet their daughter's needs. Heaven help
him but he wanted to help for the pure reason being that he was her father
and wanted to have something to do with her life. Anything.

And there was still the fact that they were dealing with other-worldly
powers here. Something that Rachel couldn't have any control over, no
matter what kind of control she tried to exert on the mortal realm.

He couldn't tell her anymore than what he had already said. What his heart,
gaze and touch was already telling her, so he kissed her forehead. The
decision was hers to make.

He had to let her make it. Patrick then looked at Julia, seeing her cover
up a small sign of expending effort as she too waited.
