"What's the matter," he asked curiously as he caught her distracted
expression. It wasn't like her to zone out like that and it worried him a
little. He reached out and took her free hand gently a concerned expression
in his dark eyes.
She put her glass down and met his gaze. He had been raised and spent his
life in the Legacy. It was his way of contributing and making a difference
in the big scope of things. If, on the off chance, someone did seriously
object to her return she didn't want him to jeopardize his work or position.
"Promise me," she spoke low, gaze and tone somber "that if it does come down
to it you won't jeopardize what you have here. We can work something out.
I mean there isn't a rule about non Legacy members living in the physical
house but we both know that if someone's seriously against accepting my
reinstatement.... "
She lowered her eyes and looked at their hands. A part of her wanted to say
she wasn't worth it, wasn't worth the risk. But she also knew that if the
roles were reversed she would fight tooth and nail for him.
