Julia looked over at Megan quietly for a brief moment before starting out.
She wasn't going to say anything unless the other woman said anything first.
It just didn't feel right to do anything else.

Megan was actually glad Julia had come out when she had. It kept her from
having to answer Sloan. But she was quiet for most of the ride and only
spoke once Julia arrived at her apartment, and it wasn't until she had
gotten out and the doorman had retrieved her bags.

She stood outside the door, her face framed by the opened window as she
looked at the woman that had driven her home.

"I--" Megan tried to talk, only to stop and start over "I don't know why you
did this, but thank you. I'm sorry if I offended you. In your place I
would have tossed me out the bedroom or worse. I know I wouldn't have been
able to be polite around a former lover. I obviously read the signs wrong
when he seemed to pass you by and paid more attention to other people."

"I'm-- I'm going to work for a few days, try to start getting--over it.
But, well, after that, if I can bring myself to it, would you-- would you
consider maybe talking? I can't really say for sure now but, well, I'm
hoping I don't want to stop being at least a friend. If, if you're okay
with that of course-with Derek and all."

Megan knew she was running on now and so straightened the purse strap on her
shoulder and stepped back "Anyway, thank you. I'll give you a call maybe
later in the week or--something."

She then turned to go in, trying to keep her composure and, in a way, glad
she had spoken so quickly that Julia hadn't had a chance to speak. She
wasn't sure if she would have been able to keep it together if the woman
had.
