"Philip," Derek called to his friend, "Julia has gone out for a bit. I'll
be back shortly, but I have to deal with Sloan. However, I would like to
speak with you later on this evening." He then followed his mother out of
the room.

Once in the library he closed the door and took a seat in a chair across
from his mother. Of course he looked different, it was probably sheer
panic. He had no idea how his mother was going to take this news. He
wasn't so worried about his relationship with Julia, if that were all it
was. But the baby. He had no doubt his mother would love the child, but
the idea of telling her she was going to be a grandmother, when neither of
her children were married, was a bit uncomfortable.

He shifted in his seat, clasping his hands between his knees and leaning
forward slightly. "Perhaps," he started, "that has something to do with the
fact that I am in love." He took another breath. "Julia and I have been
seeing one another since shortly after she returned."
