"Yes I am, very much so," Derek assured her, even though it had not been a
question. The fact was he'd never really thought about marriage to anyone.

He'd never thought he would be married, but then again he'd never thought
Julia would come back, or that she would even have anything to do with him.
His elbow rested on the arm of the chair, his hand touching his chin
slightly as he mulled this over. His mother thought, he should be married,
he had no doubt of that. But what did Julia think? And what did he think?
He wasn't certain on either count. The entire idea was so foreign to him.

Barbara stood and picked up her tea cup, just as the front door opened and
someone entered the house "I see you have some thinking to do so I will
return to the kitchen and keep Philip company."

Julia whistled an off key tune as she headed toward the kitchen, only to
catch sight of them in the library and pause, wondering if she should
continue on to the couch.

Barbara spotted her and smiled in greeting before approaching and kissing
her cheek and murmuring quietly "Congratulations. I hope we can speak
later."

And with that, she went on to the kitchen. Julia just looked at Derek, her
expression a mix of curiosity and mild confusion.

"Hi...?" she greeted him with a curious half smile.
