"How is Jane doing, Amber? Is she upset that I
haven't checked in
lately?" Kristin asked. She WAS worried that she'd
managed to anger
Jane again with her lack of contact. Something just
always seemed to
come up.
Amber was glad Kristin had spoken up, but she wasn't
very happy with the subject she'd chosen. She had
wanted to have a conversation with Kristin, alone,
about it.
"She's, uh, well, no, she's not angry. She's been
rather... absent-minded lately." She knew people
would want her to elaborate, but she really didn't
feel comfortable going into more details about it in
the middle of a restaurant, in the middle of a wedding
dinner, none the less.
Kristin frowned at Amber's response; it wasn't the answer she was
looking for. 'Absent-minded' was not a description that normally fit
Jane, and she was concerned that there was something wrong. She could
tell that Amber had more to say on the subject, and resolved to talk to
her later.
"Well, I guess she has a lot on her mind right now," Kristin tried to
downplay the situation. "I'll give her a call tomorrow."
