"We need to see if you're in the security grid
yet
or not too." Kristin
added thoughtfully "And Derek runs this House
differently than most. Hmm,
we might get to run into the ever pleasant Franklin
Cross."
Yuck, her mind whispered to her.
Amber raised her eyebrow in Kristin's direction.
She was obviously even more out of the loop than she
had originally thought. Franklin Cross, here? The
realization she had made about others excluding her
because of her age combined with her feelings as an
outsider, and she felt tears coming on. Fighting them
back, she decided to just follow Kristin, and gave her
a faint smile.
As they entered the library, Kristin turned and caught a glimpse of
the look on Amber's face-and the glint in her eyes. With the way that
Amber held herself off from others, Kristin could tell that being in a
new place, with new people, and not having any idea what was happening
was finally catching up with the younger woman.
Halting just inside the library, she gave Amber a wry grin. "Uhm,
Derek's been...busy the past few days; and since Jane called me on my
cell to let me know you were coming, I have the distinct impression
that she didn't tell Derek. So, I guess you won't be cleared for the
control room yet." her grin growing, she sat herself in the chair she'd
been in earlier. "But don't worry, he'll get it as soon as he gets
back to the House."
Turning back to the subject they'd been on before hitting the
library, Kristin's grin faded and a worried look darkened her eyes.
"And yes, Cross is here. And the rest of the council will be by
morning too." She didn't want Amber to feel uncomfortable, but with
the council conducting their investigation during the next while, she
had to explain. Tossing it around in her head, she wondered what
exactly to say.
