"Makes for a good welcome party," Amber mumbled
under her breath. Then, shrugging she added, "Well,
you probably want to go to the control room to figure
out if there's anything you could do, and I don't want
you to have to babysit me, so I can head back to my
room if you want." She didn't want to push Kristin
into revealing anything she didn't want to.

"Hmmm, well, 'welcome party' wasn't quite the description I was
thinking of," Kristin replied blandly. Frowning at Amber's
babysitting remark, she stood. "I don't consider hanging out with you
and getting you acquainted with this place and people as 'babysitting'"
Smiling to let Amber know she wasn't upset by the comments, she
glanced over to the entrance of the control room "Since he's not in
here, my guess is that he's the one in the control room. And no, I
don't need to be there, so how about we adjourn back to the kitchen for
more cucumbers? Or do you still have unpacking to do? I could give
you a hand..."

Kristin led the way out of the library, then paused in the hall. She
hadn't wanted to say much in case Cross came out of the control room.
Turning to Amber, "You're going to find out anyway, so it's probably
best if you already have an idea of what's going on before anyone from
the council decides to grill you. There's apparently a bit of a
question concerning Julia's legitimacy." She made a face in the
general direction of the control room. "It's complete bull, but you
know Cross..."
