Amber accepted the food Julia made gratefully. The
sight of food had worked on her appetite again, and
she took a bite out of the sandwich. She wanted to
speak up, but she wasn't going to cut into this
serious conversation, especially not at the risk of
making Derek angrier with her. What did bother her
was that she had grown up with Jane, she had been like
a surrogate mother to Amber, and no one asked her her
opinion on the matter.
