I think you get alpha blending with background now if you set 
transparent less than 255.  To get a shadow, I think you would need to 
small black bars locked to the sides of your visible bar.  Each of 
these would have transparency up to 254.  You may want to do with win 
transmouse to get full mouse clickthrough.

I can look at automating shadows at some point.

Actually, I suspect a plugin that offers many of the GDI+ services 
related to images and drawing may not be too difficult.

My bigger challenge will be to get the GDI+ headers to compile with my 
old, old VC5 compiler!
