one request: for those who see this with a core (2) duo machine: Can you check in the bios if "Active Management Technology" is enabled, and if so, if disabling that makes the effect go away. One of the theories (well.. it's only a possibility) is that there's a management event being set, and somehow linux doesn't handle it, so it sticks around and keeps waking the cpu up.
