That's the classic "Sad Mac" tone. My Duos tend to
make it now and
then.

Do you have any way of booting off a floppy? My 6214
TV Mac's HD
randomly
died a couple weeks ago and I ended up having to
format it in a PC,
then
move it back to the Mac where it formatted fine and
has worked great
ever
since.

I do have the dock, but after booting off the Disk
Tools floppy, and trying Disk First Aid, it still
doesn't see the HD on the bus.

Don't these little drives have odd ball connectors, to
be putting in a PC, let alone putting it in a full
size Mac?

That sounds like the chimes of death. Were they kind
of sour notes
that=
would belong in a funeral? My 540C makes that sound
from time to
time. I=
just yank out both batteries and the adaptor and hold
down the apple,=
option, ctrl and power buttons for a few seconds and
then boot the
sucker=
again. Disconnecting all power from it is the main
thing, though I
think.=
It also might be wise to walk away from it for a
minute or two while
it=
is disconnected. This gives you both a chance to
breathe and lessens
the=
chance of an airborn powerbook. ;)
God Bless,

I can't remember the exact tones at this time...I have
never heard them on any of my Macs, and haven't heard
it since the one time on the Duo.

I will try your suggestions concerning the batteries
and the "apple, option, ctrl and power buttons"
method.

I assume that I am to remove the backup battery, as
well??

This has been quite frustrating, as now I have finally
came across several good batteries, but now the Duo
won't cooperate. I'm still not to the point of flying
lessons for it. If it was a PC, it would probably be
in the trash by now...even though I like PC's as well.

Thanks guys...
