One other thing to try is to boot holding down the space key & hope that the
"Empower" software doesn't load before the Extensions Manager init (" EM
Extension", usually at the head of the march of the inits because of the
space in front of its name.) If you can get the Extensions Manager to pop up
before the boot sequence then maybe you can disable the "Empower" control
panels/extenesions/libraries -- that is, assuming that they're inits (files
that work to patch the system during the startup sequence.)
This worked for me with another security software, called "Control", so no
guarantee that "Empower" isn't more fiendishly clever. "Control" wouldn't
let me start up with a boot floppy, either, so maybe they use the same
means....
