I purchased a couple IDE-scsi 2.5" adapters direct from the Japanese manufacturer, Century and that was the most cost effective solution I've come across so far. As large ATA laptop drives are plentiful and cheap, there's no reason to limit oneself to small, a 20GB or 30 GB drive costs scarcely more than smaller drives. At Y11,000- plus shipping for just the adapter, it ain't cheap but all other alternatives are much more. Last year I was able to put together a 2.5" x 17mm 30GB scsi drive for under US$200. That combo landed in my PB540c/PPC167, and the other adapter went into my daughter's Power Color Classic (P575 LB with Daystar 66mhz 601) attached to an 18GB IBM laptop drive.

Be aware that this adapter is limited in its firmware to a max drive size of 32GBs. <J> That's a _real_ concern for those of us installing such a drive in a 68K PowerBook!! </J> Dan K PS: if you read through my note this far, you'll want to know about this adapter to use 2.5" scsi drives on a regular 50 pin scsi cable: go here <http://www.pimfg.com/> and search for item # "250-SCSI" : >) -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
