Heh. Following up to myself... One strange thing about my Minix install, no shutdown, halt, or telinit command-- I don't know how to shut it down cleanly. I just unmounted the /usr image (sync;sync;sync;umount /dev/hd1) and quit-- the / partition is a ram disk, so it shouldn't matter, but still! Hmmm... I didn't try killing the kernel...
