Jean,

I agree with Cathy. Give the WaveLAN Silver (or Gold) a look.
Additionally, under OS 9.1, it will work with Apple's AirPort drivers
on the PowerBook 3400, so you don't have to worry about support.

FWIW, the AirPort card (not the new AirPort Extreme, though) IS the
WaveLAN silver in a new box and rebranded by Apple. The WaveLAN
silver is made by Lucent Technologies. Newer cards are made by one
of Lucent's subsidiaries (but it's still Lucent). Lucent, Avaya,
Agere, and Orinoco are some of the names of the companies that have
manufactured the card. In addition to Apple, there are various 3rd
party re-branders out there including 3Com and Dell.

But don't worry. If the card is named "WaveLAN Silver" it will
certainly work with the AirPort software from Apple and be fully
useful out of the box.

I run one on my Wallstreet under 9.2.2 and AirPort - it works great.

And after you get that card, be sure to check out my software
"ClassicStumbler" to help troubleshoot your network and get info
about the quality of your reception!
<http://homepage.mac.com/alk/classicstumbler/> It's free, but if
you like it, feel free to send me a postcard!

I have a new version that's just about ready for release - should be
out by the end of the week after I do some final testing. The code
is done, I just need to make sure it won't mess up anyone's
computer...

Peace,
Drew
