Yeah, it WOULD be really Neat(TM) to make a version that doesn't require AirPort drivers... ;-) The reason I use AirPort (and why AP Scanner does too) is because Apple makes it really easy to get the information. That is, the AirPort software has an interface that allows you to gather info from the system about available networks that is super easy to access. If you have AppleScript's Script Editor, choose "Open Dictionary..." on the AirPort Scripting Addition file. Basically, all my app (and AP Scanner) does is to add a nice GUI on top of that raw info. Lucent's drivers for the WaveLAN aren't as nice in this regard. I suppose that at some level it would be possible (maybe with some Toolbox calls) to dig into the data that the card gives up without using AirPort, but AirPort makes it easy. I'm a novice to intermediate skill level programmer (most of what I know is only useful if you are doing numerical stuff - that's my physics background coming out), so at the moment this is beyond me. But I promise to look into it! Maybe in the future I can put out a 190/5300/1400 compatible version... ;-) Honestly, though, it won't be for a while. >BTW I'm not sure if that URL is valid, but http://homepage.mac.com/alk gets >you close enough :) Yeah, the URL you are looking for is <http://homepage.mac.com/alk/classicstumbler/> > >Brian Lucent's drivers work well enough, but they kinda suck. Keep your eyes peeled, though - I'm sure someone more tallented than I will bring something out sooner or later. And in the meantime, I'm working on some other network utils that might be useful (PING, DNS lookups, ARP/RARP, and some other network utility stuff) and which do not require AirPort... Thanks for the input though!
