I would definitely do the swap. I had to do it backwards (from broken 
logicboard with 16 MB and 1 MB VRAM to functioning one with 8 MB and 
512k), and I still regret it. With 1 MB VRAM you have more colours 
and the picture *feels* sharper. I do not think that you will get a 
noticeable speed gain, though. However, the 8 more MB are nice as 
well.
The swap is fairly easy to do if you have the service manual and a 
8-torx driver at hand (with some practice you can do it in 5 minutes).
