I'm not sure I understand what's happening. Kicking the card out shouldn't
stop the boot process. It usually doesn't happen until later in the boot
process if it can't find the software for it and therefore can't recognize
it (ooh, I don't know what that is...I spit it out.), but the boot process
should continue.

Check to be sure the software for it is available.

Another thing is: Try switching slots. I have a CF card in the upper slot,
and the modem in the lower one. It likes it that way, hates it if I switch
them, but I'm not sure why.
