The 1400c cannot boot with a card stuck into it during the boot. Same as
sleep mode. It will just kick the card out if you attempt it.

Let the machine boot up, then insert the card.

It can boot with the card in the slot if the card was loaded before it was
last shutdown.

I have a 9.1 OS 48 MB RAM G3 333MHz 1400c and this is what it does, also the
1400 user guide states the same.
