In general, 8.1 has BIG performance benefits over 8.0 (e.g. compare the speeds of opening windows in a list view in 8.1 vs 8.0). Likewise, 8.6 tends to have better stability than 8.5, but with comparable resource requirements, so I almost always upgrade 8.5 systems to 8.6.
