I haven't had that problem. Battery Recondition 1.5 and SimpleText 1.4, and HyperCard 2.2 work reliably for me (PB 1400cs/upgraded to G3, MacOS 8.6, 44 MB RAM doubled to 88 using RamDoubler 9.0.1). Were you running SpeedDoubler 8.1.2? It was much more reliable than some of the earlier versions... When I've run into problems on my PowerBook, it's usually been because some legacy program insists on installing an older version of an extension on my system. Believe it or not, I started seeing a bunch of crashes recently, and I discovered that something had installed a MacOS 7.something version of the Network control panel on my v8.6 system! You might want to try running with Conflict Catcher 8 or newer (you can download a fully functional demo from http://www.casadyg.com/ ) or installing a clean system.
