With due respect for the numerous knowledgeable responses since then, anyone who is 
not in the mood for  searching/hacking drivers can always get a MacWireless PC Card, 
which supports Mac OS 7.5.5 and newer, and works well with PowerBooks 
3400/2400/1400/5300/190, requiring no modification.  It comes with Mac/Win drivers on 
CD.  I bought one for not much more than a Lucent Wavelan Silver Card, both from OWC a 
few months ago.
