The dividing line between those PBs which can use Apple's AirPort software and those which cannot falls along the nubus-to-pci-platform transition. AP needs OpenFirmware to initialize and since nubus-based Macs lack OpenFirmware, AP won't work on such nubus 'Books as 5300 and 1400.
Drew, can you see any possibility at all to hack AP for nubus PBs?
The Orinoco software works quite well on my 5300...why are you intent on hacking Airport software to such an extent when working solution exists?
(which since it will mean hacking firmware support into systems that don't have it, this is WAY difficult.)
