Hubs work fine with the 520/540 series I use one all the time with our
home DSL setup.  You have to have TCP/IP set for DHCP in most instances.
I've used it on a hub/network at several different colleges as well as a
friend's home network, too.

Re: passive color screens--I've found these to only be a problem when more
than one person is trying to view the screen, or really bright lights are
hitting the screen.  Otherwise it's fine.

I got the 32 meg memory module on ebay for under $50 a few years
ago--that coupled with RamDoubler gives me more than enough memory. :)
