Hi,
Is there some trick to making cd-rom modules in Powerbook 1400c/cs machines behave?
I have a 12x CD-rom module for my 1400cs/133. I inserted the CD-rom while the laptop was in Sleep Mode. After which, I put in a cd-rom. It buzzed and clicked and whirred... never read it.
My experience has been that while the 1400 and 5300 (virtually the same machine in this context) technically support warm swapping (swapping while sleeping) media bay modules, in actuality the procedure is prone to failure.
My 5300s puke when I swap modules with them in sleep - sometimes they even freeze up completely. More often, though, they never recognize the new hardware or whatever media I put into them.
The solution to that is to only swap when the machine is shut down. On the 5300 that's not such a big deal (since most people don't have any media bay modules besides the floppy drive anyway). On the 1400, however, that could be more troublesome, what with zip drives, CD-ROM drives, floppy drives, etc.
Peace, Drew
